We had a few hours of layover at Amsterdam.  It is a quite nice place to be if you have to wait for a flight.  The city is very close with 20 minutes train ride, and very pleasant to walk around. Even the airport cafe is a good place to have fresh herring fix.

 

We were stunned by the autumnal colors of trees in the city, since we (Mom and Meg) were in a Subsaharan tropical area for a month.

 

 They were having a huge protest of 40,000 people against the all sorts of government programs.  Too bad we couldn’t stay for the concert which would be held later for the protest.

 

We purchased their famous tulip bulbs at one florist.  They all made nice flowers next spring at an outdoor pot by our New York apartment building.
