Ephesus:
The Greeks first inhabited Ephesus around 1200BC. Around 700BC the Cimmerians conquered it and not until Alexander the Great took it back in 334 B.C that the Greeks were back in control. It was devastated by earthquakes and rebuilt many times. At the peak, there were over 300,000 people. There was hot and cold running water, many fountains, and the Theater which could hold 24,000 people. It was a busy port until 400AD when the harbor was silted up. After that it declined and was eventually abandoned. It was excavated starting in the late 1800's with many parts cobbled together to give the impression of what it might have been like.
