priene:

 The city was important around 300 BC because it was where the League of Ionian Cities held its congresses and festivals.  Romans didn’t bury former Hellenistic buildings since the city was smaller and less important than nearby Miletus. Priene was a planned town with its streets laid out in a grid (the grid system originated in Miletus) .
