Kakamega Friends Church:

The first Sunday in Kakamega, most of the members went to a local Quaker Meeting.  Nancy and I went on a quest for cheaper accommodations than the Golf Hotel.

The Savona Hotel is a quiet and romantic place where every hut has a view of the Ishuka River.  The owner of Little Home was very friendly and the place was convenient with self-catering facility.  Only they didn’t have enough rooms for twelve people.  On the last day in Kakamega we went to their restaurant to dine for a change.  One warning about eating out in Kenya, prepare for a long wait!

Finally we went to Sheywe Guest House from a recommendation by a Canadian friend of Cliff’s whom he had met at the Golf Hotel by coincidence.  The Sheywe had everything that we wanted.  When Nancy and Meg went to meet the members at the Quaker church, somebody told us the owner of the guest house was at the meeting and he had just left.  Later that day when we met the owner at the guest house members were warmly welcomed as fellow Quaker friends.  He gave us a good deal with a complimentary one night stay.  All the staff is very friendly and we felt like being at home.  We highly recommend this guest house if you are going to Kakamega.
