On the Raj Path:
India Gate was designed
by Edwin Lutyens in 1921 to commemorate soldiers killed in
wars from World War I to the Northwest frontier and Afghan War of 1919.
Parliament House (Sansad Bhavan) was also designed by Edwin Lutyens and constructed
between 1921 and 1929. It was home to Lord Mountbatten, appointed
Viceroy in 1947 to supervise the transition to Independence. Mahatma
Gandhi criticized the construction such "architectural piles" was "in conflict
with the best interest of the nation."
